    Prostate Screening

The prostate gland is located under the bladder in males and it is shaped like a doughnut. The urethra (the tube that carries urine) goes through the middle of the prostate gland. The prostate gland makes a fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation. As men get older the prostate can become larger, which could cause urinary problems which could cause Prostitis (inflammation of the prostate gland) or BPH which stands for Benign (noncancerous) Prostatic Hypertrophy.
The prostate can also develop cancer. Symptoms of prostate cancer include:

    Slowing of urinary stream
A feeling of not fully emptying the bladder
Waking several times at night to urinate
    Blood in urine
    Severe weight loss
    Back pain
In most cases, prostate cancer causes few symptoms until it becomes very advanced.
There are two ways to check for prostate cancer: a physical exam of the rectum (area where the prostate can be felt) and a blood test.
