    Ankle & Foot Injuries

Our Podiatrist is available to assess ankle and foot injuries that do not require emergency treatment. If you feel you have possibly broken or severely sprained your ankle or any other part of the foot, please seek emergency care. Please call our office to obtain more information or to schedule an appointment at 847-255-7474.

    Athlete's Foot

Athlete's Foot is the most common fungal infection of the skin of the feet caused by various dermatophytes. It is also known as tinea pedis. Athlete's foot causes mild to severe itching in the affected area. Fungi grow best in warm, moist environments and thus tend to prefer the area between the toes. It can be treated with over-the-counter medication, but sometimes prescription medication is necessary and/or works more efficiently treating the infection. There is oral medication as well as topical medication that can be recommended. Please call today if you wish to schedule an appointment with our podiatrist. 847-255-7474

    Bunion, Callus, & Corn Removal

Bunions usually develop slowly over time. Symptoms may include: Swelling or enlargement of the metatarsophalangeal joint at the base of the big toe, reposition of the big toe inward toward the other toes, redness of the joint, pain of the joint, and skin irritation over the bunion.

Calluses and Corns may cause some pain while walking or wearing shoes. You may also experience difficulty fitting into shoes. A callus is hard, dry and thick and may appear grayish or yellowish in color. A hard corn may also be firm and thick. Sometimes, there may be a yellow ring with a gray center present. However, a soft corn can look like an open sore.

Please call American Health Center to obtain more information or to schedule a consultation with our podiatrist to discuss treatment and prevention. 847-255-7474

    Nail Problems & Injuries

Our podiatrist can evaluate many types of toenail injuries, infections, and other conditions. If you suffer from nail pain, nail discoloration, possible fungal infections or bacterial infections that result from hangnails or ingrown toenails, please call to schedule an appointment.

    • Ingrown toenails usually result from improper trimming, tight shoes or heredity. The nail may grow into the surrounding tissue causing pain and swelling.
    • Hangnails are defined as a partly detached piece of skin at the root or lateral edge of a finger or toenail. There can be pain and swelling at the site.
    • Fungal Nail Infections can vary in appearance depending on the type of fungus infecting the nail. It is not unusual for a fungal infection to appear shortly after or during Athlete's Foot.

    Heel Spurs & Foot Pain

Heel Spurs are small, bony growths found on the underside of the heel bone. Usually, they are less than a quarter of an inch (6 mm) long, but they can be longer. Most spurs do not cause weight-bearing problems when the person stands or moves, but there may be some discomfort present. Please call today to schedule an appointment! 847-255-7474

    Ligament Tears

Please call our office if you believe you may have injured any ligament of the foot. Provided the injury does not require emergency treatment, our podiatrist is available to evaluate the problem. One common ligament tear is the tearing of the Achilles tendon. Please call for an appointment at 847-255-7474.

    Wart Removal

Many people suffer from plantar warts or warts found on the bottom of the feet. These warts can be bothersome and can cause pain if extensive enough or large enough. It is not recommended that you attempt to remove the warts yourself. If you wish to be evaluated because you suffer from plantar warts, please make an appointment and our podiatrist will decide what treatment is best for you. 847-255-7474
